Public Lands Day Special Events at Lassen Park

Annual Art & Wine of Lassen Festival with Free Park entrance in honor of Public Lands Day.
The Lassen Park Rangers, Lassen Association and Cal Parks Company have planned a fun filled day at Lassen Park to celebrate Public Lands Day.
Begin the day with a special Junior Ranger Program – Art in the Park
Earn your Junior Ranger Certificate
10:00 am – 3:00 pm | Amphitheater
Guests artists will be on hand to help you show how Lassen Park inspires you through drawing, painting, photography and writing. Materials will be provided and you may submit your artwork to the National Parks Gallery.
5th Annual Art & Wine of Lassen Festival
Art & Wine Festival – Lassen Park
11:00 am – 5:00 pm | Patio area of the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center
This event keeps growing each year. $7.00 tasting fee for wine tasting which includes a commemorative wine glass. Many of the local wineries from Manton will be show casing their wines for your tasting pleasure. Manton, California has just been designated one of the 225 federally designated grape growing regions in the country. There are 11 vineyards and 7 wineries in Manton.
Local artists and craftsmen will have their work on display and for sale.
Allison Scull and Victor Martin with special guest Stefan Schittke will be playing music from 1 pm – 4 pm. Allison will perform on the guitar and vocals. Victor plays the saxophone and sings. Stefan in on the keyboards.
Allison and Victor have played venues in both Oregon and California. If you miss them at the Lassen Art & Wine Festival they will be playing again at the Manton Apple Festival on Oct. 4th at Cedar Crest Vineyards with the Midnight Band.
Special Author Book Signings
11:00 am – 5:00 pm | Lassen Association Bookstore (inside visitor center)
Four Lassen Association authors will be signing books. Bring your copy or plan to purchase on at the Lassen Association Bookstore.
The Lassen Association will be offering special pricing on some items in the bookstore. Great time to start your Christmas shopping, meet some great authors in person and support the Lassen Association.

Meet Melissa Lockwood, learn about her experience as Lassen’s first Artist-in-Residence. If you are interested in the Artist-in-Residence program applications are being accepted thru Oct. 31, 2014 for the 2015 year. Melissa’s 7 digital illustrations will be on display for your viewing.
Solar Scope Viewing
2:00 pm – 5:00 pm | Front patio of SW Visitor Center
Come and safely marvel at our closest star through a solar scope and learn some surprising and interesting facts about the center of our solar system.
For many guests staying at St. Bernard Lodge this was a highlight of the Dark Sky Festival this summer.
Green Fire Film Showing
7:00 pm – 8:30 pm | Outdoor Amphitheater
Green Fire spotlights the efforts of Aldo Leopold, arguably the greatest conservationist of the 20th century. Learn about Leopold’s idea of a land ethic for a population facing significant ecological challenges and how this idea changed one man and eventually conservation as a whole.
Constellation Tour and Stargazing
8:30 pm – 9:30 pm | South Visitor Center
Join rangers for a laser-guided tour of the constellations along with telescopes pointed at planets, star clusters, dying stars, and distant galaxies. Bring jackets and a blanket temperatures are starting to drop in the evening.
