Our Guide to Golfing in Lake Almanor

June 4, 2018 by: Sharon Roberts

There is nothing quite like golfing at Lake Almanor. Our small town boasts an impressive three world-class golf courses. With its mild temperatures, breathtaking views, and pristine greens, we like to think our golf courses are among the best in the region. Come to Chester and the Lake Almanor to experience fun but challenging courses with stunning views of Mount Lassen and Lake Almanor, a truly unbeatable combination.

The Lake Almanor Country Club is nestled among the mature pine and fir trees of the Lake Almanor Peninsula, offering beautiful views of the lake, Mt. Lassen, and Dyer Mountain to the east. We promise you’ll find yourself awed by the scenery with every swing on this challenging 9-hole course. Not a golfer? The Lake Almanor Country club offers so much more than just golf. The club also features seven tennis courts, three boat launches, and recreation areas complete with picnic tables and BBQs. During the summer, they also offer an excellent concert series open to the public. Concerts are held Sundays evenings in June, July, and September. After a game of tennis or golf, enjoy an elegant meal at Clifford’s Restaurant. They serve lunch 7 days a week and dinner Wednesday through Sunday.

Lake Almanor West Golf Course is known as “Northern California’s best kept secret.” Their forested line fairways and impeccable views of Mount Lassen make it a popular course for locals & tourists from all across the region. This 9 hole golf-course is set up with two very different sets of tree markers giving you the feeling of playing 18 unique holes if you choose. The views are equally marvelous at their driving range, or you can practice your short game at their well-maintained putting green. This course is a 15-minute drive from St. Bernard Lodge.

Bailey Creek is another beautiful course set along the sparkling shores of Lake Almanor. Bailey Creek’s traditional mountain design makes for a invigorating challenge, mixing breathtaking sights with fun & unexpected challenges along the way. The course boasts four lakes, 50 sand bunkers, and wide stretches of impeccable greens, though you might occasionally find a tree smack dab in the middle of the fairway. The course offers 4-5 tees per fairway, including seniors and ladies tees. After your game, enjoy pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and fine beer & wine at the casual onsite Bar & Grill. Bailey Creek is also a popular destination for weddings and events. Get more information on their website.

There is a lot to do in Chester, from climbing mountains to riding horses to swimming in its crystalline alpine lakes. However, if you are a golfer, we highly recommend pausing your mountain adventure for another kind of adventure: an adventure on the greens.
