Lassen Volcanic Dark Sky Festival
Lassen Park has over 40 special events planned for the Dark Sky Festival. Some of the highlights will be stargazing with a telescope and constellation tours. Perseid meteor shower viewing.
Hands-on astronomy for the young and the young of heart including; kitchen comets, moon models, pop rockets, and more. Film screenings of the critically acclaimed film “The City Dark”. Astronomy tours, talks and treks. Tyler Nordgren will be on-site. He is the author of Stars Above, Earth Below: A guide to astronomy in the national parks. Check park website as date approaches for updates on activities.
St. Bernard Lodge has a few rooms left during the Dark Sky Festival, make sure to check our room availability.
The park is hosting Starry Night Ranger-led programs every Wednesday at 9 pm at the Devastated Area and Saturday’s at 9:30 at the Bumpass Hell parking area through August 12th. Join the park rangers for a program on stars, planets and constellations. Learn how to locate constellations in the sky.
Special astronomy program held at Drakesbad Guest Ranch on July 22nd and August 19th. Mike Bennett, former director of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific will be hosting this program at 9:45 both nights. Get an up close look at the astronomical wonders of the sky as viewed through a telescope.
